St. James Catholic School
Philosophy

St. James Catholic School affords the fullest opportunity to realize the purpose of Christian Education as stated in the U.S. Bishops' Document: To Teach As Jesus Did. To achieve this purpose, our school endeavors to present a curriculum that provides students with the experience of learning and of living fully a Christ-like life. The relating of religious truths and values with the rest of life is affected not only in the subjects taught, but also in the manner of teaching and by the example set by the teachers.

The philosophy of St. James School contains the following principles:

1. Accepts the doctrine that all people are created in the image and likeness of God and, therefore, have the right to the means of developing in themselves the qualities of love and service to the human community. Therefore, St. James School admits students of any race, color or ethnic group to all the privileges, programs and activities sponsored by the school.

2. Creates an environment in which each person is respected as an individual.

3. Presents in this atmosphere the timeless good news of Christianity in ways that speak to our youth, and in such a manner as to invoke the "gospel spirit" of love, freedom, honesty, unity in Christ, generosity, joy and self-sacrifice and self-esteem.

4. Gives the student a personal. freedom to help them acquire self-discipline which is necessary to learning, for developing their own personality, and for leadership.

5. Develops the students' thinking processes through a balanced curriculum.

6. Offers a physical fitness program which includes exercise, competitive sports, fair play, good sportsmanship, instruction in safety, personal hygiene, disease prevention, nutritional guidance, and the effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

7.
Builds a healthy respect for law, order, and the rights of others through the basic knowledge of law, society, political structure and government.

8. Establishes a good foundation in history so that each student can appreciate current events, his future , position in society, and his future responsibilities as an American citizen.
